Animal Farm 7 essays A literary work that has greatly influenced my life would be the work of George Orwells Animal Farm. Orwell once classified the book as a fairy story but it is to many other things to be simply classified so casually. It has been described as a fable, a political analysis, an allegorical lesson, but more importantly a satire on humane folly. Derived from his actual experiences with Soviet communism, Animal Farm delivers a strong message about the effects of power and superiority on the human conscience that can be applied not only to the status quo of Orwells time, but it serves as an astoundingly accurate depiction of many events over the course of history. For example it is a common Marxist theory that the ruling class would be overthrown by a lower class which would in turn become the new ruling class. The new ruling class would eventually be overthrown by the newly formed lower class, and so on. This a perfect example of what Orwell demonstrated in Animal Farm. He reminds us that it is easy forget to be compassionate when you shift from the oppressed to the oppressor because of the deceptiveness of power. One could even go as far as to apply this situation to the American Revolution. Once freed from tyranny of Britain, many of the states wasted no time in abusing there power with taxes and laws. More importantly, however, was the mistreatment of minorities. Slaves, Native Americans, and women were oppressed under under the statement that all men are created equal.. And even today you find the struggle for dominance: one party so convinced that their principles are better for the country than another. You cannot possibly have the best interest of the country in mind when you generalize the opinion of every citizen in the country or are naive enough to believe that you know how to run the lives of the people better than the people do. The direction of force is the direction of push or pull. If the push and pull are on opposite directions, they act simultaneously, in other words the one with the greater push gives the direction of force. The standard unit for force in International system is Newton (N). Altogether there are five types of forces which are given below with their definitions mentioned- 1. Muscular Force- The force exerted by the muscles is known as Muscular force. 2. Gravitational Force- When an object is thrown in the air, it automatically comes down. This is because the Earth attracts every object or body towards it with a force called the force of Gravitation. 3. Magnetic Force- The force exerted by a magnet is called Magnetic force. For e. g. If I bring a magnet near some pins, they will all get pulled towards the magnet. It therefore, implies that the magnet has exerted some force on the pins. 4. Electrostatic Force- The force exerted by electrostatic charge is called Electrostatic force. This type of force can be repulsive or attractive. For e. g. Rub a comb with a dry cloth and bring it near small pieces of paper. We would be astonished to discover that the pieces of paper are pulled towards the comb. This attraction is due to electrostatic force. 5. Frictional Force- The force which opposes the motion of a body moving on a surface is called Frictional force. This type of a force acts between the two surfaces in contact. For e. g. Roll a ball on a smooth polished surface, next on a rough floor. We will be surprised to discover that, on the smooth surface, it travels over a long distance before coming to rest as compared to the distance it travels on a rough surface. Weight and Mass- The gravitational pull of the Earth on a body is called its weight. Weight of a body can be measured by a device called Spring Balance. It is measured in Newtons. Quantity of matter contained in body is called its Mass. It is measured by a physical balance and its units are Kilograms. Machines A machine is a device which helps us to apply force easily and make our work easier and convenient. A wide variety of machines are extensively used at home, in school, factories and in other activities in life. Some of the common used simple machines are: Tongs, Knife, Screw driver, Nut cracker, Tweezer, Pliers, Scissors and pulleys. There are some complex machines too such as: Bicycle, Sewing machine and Tractors. Machines Enable us to Apply Force at a Convenient Point While using a pair of scissors, we use force at the end of the blades whereas the cloth is cut in between the sharp edges of the blades. When we are pushing a screw inside a block of wood, we are using a screw driver, the force is therefore being applied to the handle of the screw driver, but it acts on the head of the screw and moves its sharp tip inside. Machines Enable us to Change the Direction of Force While drawing water out from a well, he rope is passed over a pulley. The rope is pulled downwards whereas the bucket of water is pulled upwards. Pushing the rope downward is more convenient as compared to moving it up. So the use of machines enables us to change the direction of force. Lever: Lever is a rod which moves freely about a pivot. A crowbar is a perfect example. Fulcrum: It is a pivot abut which a rod or a system mover freely. Load: The weight of an object required to be lifted is called the Load. Effort: The force applied on an object is called effort. There are three types of levers depending upon the relative positions: First Type: The first type of lever involves the fulcrum in between the effort and the load. Second Type: In this second type of lever the load is in between the fulcrum and the effort. Wheelbarrow is a lever in which the load is in between the fulcrum and the effort. Third Type: In this third type of lever, the effort lies in between the fulcrum and the load. Tongs and fishing rods are examples of this category. Law of Moments: Clockwise = Anti- Clockwise Formula: Force X Distance Pulley A pulley consists of a wheel that turns freely about an axle passing through its centre. It is designed in such a manner that its periphery (Outer part) has a groove over which passes a rope or a chain. Pulling or releasing the rope turns the wheel. Method à Firstly, I had gathered all the equipment and had set up the experiment. As I was accomplishing the experiment alone, it took me a while to conduct the experiment. à Secondly, I had started to conduct the experiment by placing the weights on both the sides so they can balance. As I had conducted the experiment before I achieved the desired results. à Thirdly and lastly after accomplishing the experiment I had put all the equipment back to their original places and copied down the results in a table format which are mentioned in the results column. Prediction I predict that as the distance decreases, the force required increases. I also predict that as the object moves away from the pivot, the effort required in less. Fair Test There was only one issue for the fair testing which is, mentioned below- à I had used the same Newton meter same time as it might not have the same spring inside which would have lead me inaccurate results. Safety While I was conducting the experiment there werent much safety issued to be observed but some of the safety issues are mentioned below- à I was careful, while handling with the weights as if they would have fallen on someones foot it could have been injurious. While carrying out the experiment, there were many people doing important work, I was careful not to cause noise pollution. à Lastly, I was careful while handling with the ruler as it was delicate piece of equipment. I also believe that I have achieved my goals which were to obtain perfect results. Even though I was successful in obtaining perfect results, I had encountered some problems which are mentioned below- 1. The first problem I had encountered was, while I was trying to balance the weights on the meter rule, I had kept on changing the positions of the weights from left to right as it would not balance both the ends even though my calculations were correct. 2. Secondly, I think there was some problem on the meter rule as the as the weights would not balance perfectly. 3. Lastly, I think there was some with the block of wood which was used to balance the meter rule. I think the plank of wood was defected i. e. chipped off. Some Simple Machines.

The prices have been relatively steady with minimal changes. For example in May 2nd the stocks indicated a 0.16% change in shares prices. The Russell 2000 index has, also, been steady in the long term (Russell Investment, 2014). It has shown a positive growth of 0.18% in the last month and 0.26% as of May 2nd 2014. Back in 2005, I was in Iraq. Being a single, female soldier in Iraq is not very easy. Iââ¬â¢m not complaining, but I had my share of difficulties. I was a commander; a leader. I know that sexual inequality is not as strong as compared to, say, the 60s, but it still exists. As a female commander, I had to endure rumors about my leadership. Worse, I had to endure rumors about myself, on a daily basis. Everyone was talking behind my back; everyone was lying to me; everyone was preten ding to be with me, but actually was not. It was a pretty difficult experience, especially since I am a commander and I have to be in control of the subordinates. I tried to confront everyone whoââ¬â¢s involved but I decided against it since I know that it would only add friction and create tension among the people involved. I knew that they disliked me but I decided to let it all go. There was no point of taking things personally. We were in a war and adding more stress to that is not just worth it. I have to lead my soldiers through that war. I do not have to let the rumors get the best out of me. I decided to focus and deliver my duties as an effective commander. So, I dropped it and refused to acknowledge their taunts and rumors. They canââ¬â¢t do anything to hurt me because I was their commander, only rumors. In the end, they stopped because they could not get a reaction from me; and I led them through battles, unscathed. Although the relations between me and them are not as fraternal and jovial as people would imagine, we became a good unit out in the field. If I chose to bicker with them and engaged them with their taunts and rumors, it would have then been an awkward time out there in the field. There might be a chance that they might rebel against me, because personal feelings can always get in the way. Keeping things professional is the best way out of this problem, as well as keeping quiet. This crucible of mine taught me how to see things on a basic perspective; without letting emotions getting the best out of me. It also taught me to be more calculating, and this is proving to be more useful in these times. A leader is supposed to inspire and motivate. Can I do that when I am acting emotionally, when I am retaliating to their immature behavior? The answer is ââ¬Å"Noâ⬠. In selecting the feed, there are several factors which should be well thought-out are as follows: Forces are exerted against the work piece, the cutter, and their property devices during the cutting process. The force exerted varies directly with the amount of metal unconcerned and can be regulated by the feed and the depth of cut. Therefore, the wrong amount of feed and depth of cut have interrelated, and in turn are dependent upon the rigidity and power of the machine. The feed and depth of cut also depend upon the type of milling cutter being used. For example, deep cuts or foul-mouthed feeds should not be attempted when using a small diameter end milling cutter, as such an attempt would spring or break the cutter. Coarse cutters with muscular cutting teeth can be fed at a faster rate because the chips may be washed out more without problems by the cutting oil. The feed of the milling machine may be selected in inches per minute or millimeters per minute the milling feed has determined by multiplying the chip size (chip per tooth) desired, the integer of teeth on the cutter, and the revolutions per minute of the cutter. When the silhouette of Nuremberg appears through the clouds the music turns into the Nazi anthem, which continues while we see the shadow of the plane over the marching columns of storm troopers. This demonstrates the significance of the music for creating the desired emot ional impression among the viewers. High School Forever Essay
After reading this article I thought to myself that this is exactly what high school sounds like it is just a social combat, some people are already on the top and do not have to try and others try to climb to the top but never make and some just stay on the bottom they do not even make an effort to climb. I know that in adolescence us teenager try to find out who we really are and to be able to define ourselves and according to the article high school is one of the hardest places to do that in. But I think that even though people experience social fear because they are sensitive towards what other people think and have the least amount of control I think that high school is beneficial because it prepares you if what is ahead. Because in life you will encounter these things so it is better to have experienced it before hand but the difference between life and high school is that in high school it is really easy to be judged and labeled where as in real life you do not really fear what others think because after high school you find who you really are, you bloom, and you become more confident in yourself and stand for what you truly believe in. So I think that even though high school can be hell sometimes it really prepares us for what is ahead, because life is not fair and we have to learn that the hard way. Well after reading the article I thought Holden Caulfield was like Kenji in the article; even though Kenji was not very popular in high school he became a very successful and became a very attractive person after high school. I think that, that will be the case with Holden because he does not really fit in anywhere. I think that he will grow out of his ââ¬Å"not fitting inâ⬠phase and find who he really is and what matters most in his life. But I also think that he will still be judgmental and think everyone is a phony. I also think that he will realize that growing up and becoming an adult is not as scary as he presumes it may be. I think that it will take him a while after graduating high school, if he does not get kicked out of any more schools and he gets into another school. But when he does I think he will realize that maturing and being responsible is not hard. I think Caulfield is really confused when it comes to life because he does not have any grown up to really tell him what it is like to grow up, so I think that impacts his behavior towards people. I think that even though you are not the most popular and you may not have many friends in high school, it may not matter because if you know why you are there, to learn and become successful in your life, then it all works out in your favor in the end, but it is nice to have friends to not a lot just maybe a couple.

Emotive language Essay Example Emotive language Paper Emotive language Paper The two texts look at the event from opposite viewpoints. Of the two I thought that the language used in the first article was more shocking and made the event sound devastating and more like a disaster compared to the way in which the event was described in the second article. One of the main reasons it sounded more realistic and shocking was because statistics were used to show the readers just how bad the disaster really was. Another reason I think that the first article was particularly effective because it uses words such as emergency, critical, salvage and disaster. Words like these are effective because they are examples of emotive language. They appeal to the readers emotions and make them think that the situation is urgent and that the animals are in great danger. This encourages the readers to help, which is the aim of the WWF (as they say in the last paragraph in bold). The overall effectiveness of this article is very good, though when I read the last paragraph it made me think differently because the WWF sound like they are using the disaster for advertising purposes. The second article was trying to convince the reader that the disaster was not so bad. This article did not succeed in convincing me of this though. The writer of this article tried to obviously turn it around and instead of making the disaster itself the subject of the article, they tried to make the beauty and power of mother nature the main subject of the article. Like the WWF fact sheet, this article also uses emotive language to persuade the reader, however the emotive language is used for the opposite reason. Instead of using it to show just how bad the disaster was, the writer uses it to say how the disaster wasnt that bad. Examples of the emotive language used are words such as, triumph, signs of hope and rebirth of beauty. These words didnt convince me though because the writer has an obviously biased view and to me it sounds as if this article is attempting to cover up the incident and make it sound as if it wasnt the fault of the oil tanker and the company behind it. I thought that the most effective and convincing article was the WWF fact sheet. The language in the text convinced me because the article was written very clearly with statistics and quotes to back up their points. Compared to the other article I thought this was better because instead of trying to cover up what happened the WWF article just gave the bare facts. The powerful emotive language also helped to convince me with words such as rapidly, critical and disaster.
